The Old Town Hall dominates Gmünd's town square, which offers a magnificent view of the unique sgraffito houses and a lovely atmosphere for strolling and relaxing.

A striking feature of the town square are the two 16th-century sgraffito houses, which stand out particularly for their elaborate facades and battlements. (“sgraffere” – to scratch away). The intricate diamond-patterned decoration on the older house is unique in Austria. The entire town square is now a designated historic preservation zone.

The best way to explore the town square is with a guided tour, or you can explore the sights on your own. A detour to the castle park is definitely recommended!
