The original 13th-century royal castle underwent numerous renovations, the most recent of which, carried out between 1845 and 1871, transformed it into a magnificent Neo-Gothic princely residence for the Schwarzenberg dynasty. The castle chambers and richly decorated halls can be viewed on various guided tours, but you can also visit the armory or the adjacent South Bohemian Mikoláš Aleš Gallery (Alšova jihočeská galerie) with its precious art collections. You should also not miss a stroll through the large castle park, which is laid out in the English style.

It takes about an hour to reach the castle by car.
