Heidenreichstein Water Castle
Heidenreichstein Castle is the largest surviving medieval moated castle in Lower Austria. It has never been destroyed since its construction and is therefore also known as the most beautiful moated castle in Austria.
Heidenreichstein Castle is just 19.5 km from the hotel.
Let's go!
The oldest parts of the castle, built around 1160, form an irregular quadrangular courtyard. On the west side stands the imposing keep, which is about 40 meters high and has walls 4 meters thick. To this day, the castle is accessed via two drawbridges.
The interior rooms, which can be viewed during guided tours, are also unique. In addition to a thousand-year-old tabletop, chests, and early Gothic cabinets, the rooms also feature furnishings from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
Near the town of Heidenreichstein lies the Heidenreichsteiner Moor Nature Park, which is also well worth a visit. Covering an area of approximately 30 hectares, one-third of it consists of open raised bog—a truly unique natural spectacle—surrounded by bog forest covered with spruce, pine, and birch trees.
